These Terms explain the rules for using GoTo’s, what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you. We wrote them in plain language.
1. Agreeing to these Terms
GoTo’s is operated by 9i9e LLC (“GoTo’s”, “we”, “us”). These Terms apply to the GoTo’s iPhone app, the website at gotos.app, and anything else we offer that links to them (together, the “Service”).
You agree to these Terms when you create an account, or when you answer a question on GoTo’s without an account (for example, through a link a friend sent you). If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
Our Privacy Policy and Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy explain how we handle personal information. They are part of how the Service works, and we encourage you to read them.
2. Who can use GoTo’s
You must be at least 18 years old.
At launch, GoTo’s is available only to people in the United States with a US mobile number.
GoTo’s is invite-only. You need an invitation from a member, a question link from a member that you answered, or a place released from our waitlist.
You may have only one account, and it must be yours. Don’t create accounts for other people or share yours.
You can’t use GoTo’s if we have previously removed you, or if the law prohibits you from using it.
3. Your account and phone number
You sign in with your mobile number. We send one-time verification codes by text message. We use text messages only for sign-in and security codes, never for marketing. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency depends on how often you sign in.
Keep your phone and codes secure. You’re responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has accessed it, email help@gotos.app right away.
If you change or give up your phone number, update it in the app first. Mobile numbers are sometimes reassigned, and we can’t be responsible for access by someone who later receives a number you no longer use.
4. How GoTo’s works
GoTo’s helps you find recommendations from people you know. Your GoTos are your picks: places, people, services, products and things you recommend. Who sees each pick depends on the choices you make:
Just me: only you can see it.
Your circle: your accepted connections can see it. It has a limit of 150 people.
Friends of friends: for kinds of things you choose to open, people connected to your connections can find that pick. This could be thousands of people you don’t know. They can find it only when they search for that kind of thing and a friend you have in common has named you their GoTo for it. They see your first name, the friend you share, and that pick, not your profile or your other picks.
Asks: when someone asks you for a recommendation, your reply goes only to the person who asked.
Some kinds of things, such as health, therapy, legal and money matters, stay hidden unless you share them in reply to an Ask. Home and family services stay within your circle. We describe these rules in the app, and you can review and change your choices in Settings.
Features such as Good calls and “You’re my GoTo for…” show other members, by name, that you found someone’s pick useful or trust their picks. The app asks before showing your name.
When three or more people name you their GoTo for the same thing, you can choose to show it as a badge to your circle. You can also choose to share the people you’ve named your GoTo with your circle; each person you named decides whether to be included.
5. Invitations
You send invitations yourself, from your own phone or account. GoTo’s never sends invitations or messages to people on your behalf.
Only invite people you know and who you think would want to join.
Don’t sell, trade, auction or publicly post invitations, or send them in bulk.
A question link you send is also an invitation: people who answer it can join GoTo’s and are connected to you. Share question links only with people you know, as you would an invitation.
The number of invitations is limited. We may change, pause or remove invitations or question-link joins to protect the community, for example if people you invited are removed for breaking these Terms.
6. Your content
Your content is what you add to GoTo’s: picks, notes, Asks, replies, Good calls, the people you name your GoTo for something, and your profile. You own your content.
You give GoTo’s a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, format, display and transmit your content, only to operate and improve the Service. That includes showing your content to the audiences you choose and to the people you send it to. You can’t give us rights you don’t have, so only post content you have the right to share.
This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for: copies of a pick another member saved as their own GoTo, which remain with them without your name; information we must keep for safety, legal or security reasons; and routine backups, which are deleted on a regular schedule.
We don’t sell your content or personal information, and we don’t license it to others.
7. Honest recommendations
GoTo’s only works if people can trust each other’s picks. When you post or respond:
Recommend from your own real experience.
Tell us if a pick is you, your business, your family or your employer, using the question the app asks. The app shows this to others. Your own business can’t be shown to friends of friends.
If you received payment, free products or other benefits connected to a pick, disclose it. The Federal Trade Commission’s rules on endorsements apply to you as well as to us.
Only say “Good call” about something you actually tried.
Don’t coordinate with others to confirm each other’s picks or to boost anyone’s reputation.
When you recommend a person, such as a nanny, tutor or contractor, stick to your own experience. Don’t share their home address, personal phone number or private details.
You may add a pro’s work contact details, such as their business phone, website, Instagram or Facebook page, so your circle can reach them. Only add what they use for work. A pro can ask us to correct or remove their details by emailing help@gotos.app.
8. What’s not allowed
Harassing, threatening, bullying or intimidating anyone, including through Asks.
Hate speech, or content that attacks people for who they are.
Sexual content involving minors, content that exploits anyone, or sexually explicit content.
Sharing someone’s private information without their permission.
Spam, scams, fake accounts, or impersonating a person or business.
Advertising or selling through the Service, except as these Terms or the app allow with disclosure.
False or misleading picks, including reviews of businesses you’re connected to without disclosure.
Content that breaks the law or infringes someone’s intellectual property or privacy.
Scraping, crawling or collecting data from the Service by automated means.
Trying to get around our privacy settings, limits, blocks, invitation rules or security, or to access accounts or data that aren’t yours.
Interfering with the Service, including uploading malware or overloading our systems.
9. Asks sent outside GoTo’s
A member can send a question to someone who isn’t on GoTo’s, from the member’s own phone. The recipient can answer on a web page without an account.
Anyone who has the link can answer, by typing or by picking a place, title or product. We label these answers as unverified. The member who asked sees them; for everyday needs, others who answer the same link see them too, as our Privacy Policy describes.
By submitting an answer, you agree to these Terms for that answer, including the rules in sections 7 and 8.
The person who answers can join GoTo’s from that page, connected to the member who asked. If they don’t join, we delete their answer after 30 days, as described in our Privacy Policy.
If you leave your email address for everyone’s answers, we send you one email when the question closes, then delete the address.
10. Recommendations are opinions, not advice
Picks on GoTo’s are the personal opinions of members. GoTo’s doesn’t check, endorse or guarantee any business, professional, product or service that members recommend, and we aren’t part of any deal you make with them.
For anything important, such as health care, therapy, legal or financial help, childcare, or work on your home, do your own checking before you decide. For example, check licenses, insurance and references. Nothing on GoTo’s is medical, legal, financial or other professional advice.
11. Our promises to you
Your circle tops out at 150 people, each someone you both said yes to. No one can buy more room. If the limit ever changes, your circle stays at 150 unless you choose otherwise.
No one can pay to reach you. There are no followers, boosts, sponsored GoTos or sponsored questions, and no business can pay to be recommended or shown first.
If we offer a paid plan, paying members get the same invitations, “You’re my GoTo for…” and limits as everyone else. Posting, Asks, naming someone your GoTo, Good calls, muting, searching your circle, and exporting or deleting your data never require payment.
GoTo’s never pays members for their picks. Links that earn GoTo’s a commission say so, and commissions never decide which picks, people or suggestions you see, or their order.
We never sell or license your personal information or content, even in anonymized form.
If GoTo’s is ever sold, these promises go with it, and you’ll get 60 days’ notice and a chance to export your data first.
12. Links, maps and other services
The Service shows information and links from other services, such as maps, podcast directories, and movie and TV data. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them, and we aren’t responsible for their content.
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
13. Paid features and commissions
GoTo’s is free today. We may later offer optional paid features, which would come with their own terms that you’d see before buying. Purchases made through the App Store are also governed by Apple’s terms. Some links may earn GoTo’s a commission if you buy something. Those links are labeled.
14. Reports, moderation and enforcement
You can report a pick, note, Ask, reply or person from the app. When you report something, it’s hidden from you right away. Our team reviews reports, and we aim to act on them within 72 hours, though we can’t guarantee a time.
If content or conduct breaks these Terms, or creates legal or safety risk, we may remove content, limit features such as invitations or Asks, or pause, suspend or close an account. Where appropriate we’ll tell you what happened and why. If you think we made a mistake, email help@gotos.app.
15. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on GoTo’s infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated copyright agent at help@gotos.app, with “Copyright” in the subject line. We respond to notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and close the accounts of repeat infringers where appropriate.
16. Notifications and messages from us
We send notifications and emails according to the settings you choose, and you can change them in Settings at any time. We may also send messages you can’t turn off when they’re about your account, security, or changes to these Terms.
17. Leaving GoTo’s
You can export your data and delete your account at any time in the app or on gotos.app. When you delete your account:
Your picks, saved picks, searches, Asks and replies are deleted right away.
Good calls you gave, and what naming someone your GoTo said about their picks, are removed at our next nightly update.
Picks another member saved as their own GoTo stay with them. Anywhere your name appeared, it reads “a former member.”
Deleting your account doesn’t end an open report or suspension, and we may keep information we must keep for legal, safety or security reasons, as described in our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or close an account under section 14. Sections 6 (as described above), 10 and 18 to 25 continue to apply after your account ends.
18. Our service and feedback
GoTo’s, including its name, logo, design and software, belongs to us and our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service as these Terms allow. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
19. Changes to GoTo’s and these Terms
GoTo’s will change over time, and we may add, change or remove features. If we make a material change to these Terms, we’ll tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you keep using GoTo’s after that, the new Terms apply. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account.
20. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the Service will always be available, error-free or secure, or that any recommendation will be accurate or right for you.
21. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, GoTo’s won’t be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from the Service or from any business, professional or product that members recommend. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
22. Your responsibility to us
If someone brings a claim against GoTo’s because of your content or your breach of these Terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses, to the extent the law allows.
23. Resolving disputes
Please contact help@gotos.app first. Most problems can be solved that way. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that we can’t resolve informally will be decided by the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and you and GoTo’s agree to their jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies.
24. If you use our iPhone app
These Terms are between you and GoTo’s, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for the app or its content.
Your license to use the app is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as the App Store’s usage rules allow.
Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
If the app fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
GoTo’s, not Apple, is responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection, and intellectual property claims.
You confirm that you aren’t in a country subject to a US government embargo and aren’t on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
25. General terms
These Terms, together with the policies they mention, are the whole agreement between you and GoTo’s about the Service. If part of these Terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term right away, we haven’t given up the right to do so. You can’t transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to section 11. You agree to receive communications from us electronically.
26. Using GoTo’s with ChatGPT
GoTo’s offers an optional connection to ChatGPT. The connection is operated by 9i9e LLC; ChatGPT is a separate service of OpenAI, and OpenAI’s terms and policies govern your use of ChatGPT.
It’s available to eligible members: invited members in the United States who are 18 or older and have a GoTo’s account in good standing. It’s free, and we may change who can use it or pause it at any time.
When you connect, you give ChatGPT only the permissions shown to you on the GoTo’s connection screen. You can disconnect at any time in GoTo’s Settings on iPhone or the web (Settings → ChatGPT).
Saves and list changes ChatGPT makes at your request count as if you made them yourself, and these Terms apply to them. They follow the audience of the list you chose: changes to a list shared with your circle can be seen by your circle.
A suggestion from ChatGPT isn’t your recommendation, and it isn’t a friend’s recommendation, unless you or they actually put it on a GoTo’s list. Only add something to your lists, rather than your Wanna try, if you really recommend it (section 7).
AI responses can be wrong or out of date, and ChatGPT may describe GoTo’s information inaccurately. Check anything important yourself.
We don’t guarantee that the connection will always be available, that ChatGPT will choose to use GoTo’s when you expect it to, or that it will work in every ChatGPT plan, app or country.
Our Privacy Policy (section 12) explains what information goes to and from ChatGPT, including the recommendations your circle shares with you.
